Durham police have reported that a man, wanted on a Canada-wide arrest warrant for the alleged homicide of a 47-year-old man in Markham, has fled the country. The incident in question took place on April 30, 2025, when authorities responded to a well-being call in the vicinity of Fairport and Third Concession Roads.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a deceased male inside a vehicle. A subsequent post-mortem examination revealed that the individual had died as a result of homicide. Investigators later identified the victim as Joshua Ibbitson, a resident of Newmarket who was 47 years old at the time of his death.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of 25-year-old Kane Booth from Pickering, who is now sought for first-degree murder in connection with the case. Law enforcement officials have provided a description of Booth: he is a White male, standing five feet eleven inches tall, possessing a slim build, light brown hair, and brown eyes.

In an update released on Wednesday, police confirmed that Booth has departed Canada, complicating efforts to locate him. Authorities are urging anyone who may have information regarding his whereabouts or any relevant details related to the investigation to reach out to law enforcement.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities continue to seek public assistance to ensure justice for Joshua Ibbitson and to hold the alleged perpetrator accountable for the crime. The case highlights the ongoing challenges of addressing violent incidents and the importance of community engagement in criminal investigations.
