ATLANTA (AP) — Kamala Harris is ramping up her campaign efforts as the midterm elections approach, embarking on a final fall campaign blitz aimed at supporting fellow Democrats. This schedule will take her to multiple early presidential primary states as the former Vice President considers the possibility of another presidential bid after losing the 2024 general election to Donald Trump.
Harris's expanded tour, running from October 21 to October 30, includes stops in New Hampshire, Wisconsin, Mississippi, and a virtual event in Florida, alongside previously announced appearances in Georgia and Nevada. Her campaign office disclosed the complete itinerary recently, outlining her commitment to assist Democratic candidates in the upcoming November elections.
In various interviews, Harris has emphasized her focus on helping Democrats achieve success in November, although she has not dismissed the notion of a future presidential campaign. In a fundraising email to supporters, she stated, “For the past twenty months, the American people have struggled as a consequence of the cruelty and corruption of this current administration. Now is the time for us to be ruthless in delivering for the people: on affordability, on fighting corruption, and on making our voices heard.”
The late October tour will highlight nominees for governor and U.S. Senate, showcasing Harris alongside candidates who could make history. She will commence her tour on October 21 in Nevada, where she will support Aaron Ford, the state's first Black attorney general, who aims to become the first Black governor of Nevada. Additionally, Harris plans to engage with Culinary Workers Union members during her Nevada visit, as the state is set to hold the second presidential nominating contest in 2028, following South Carolina.
On October 22, she will transition to Mississippi to campaign with Scott Colom, who aspires to become the state's first Black U.S. senator since the Reconstruction era. Colom is increasingly gaining attention from national Democrats as he vies against Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith.
Continuing her campaign trail, Harris will head to New Hampshire on October 24 to support Senate nominee Chris Pappas. She is also scheduled to participate in discussions regarding reproductive care and abortion rights. As Vice President, Harris played a pivotal role as a prominent advocate for abortion rights during the Biden administration, especially noted during the 2022 midterm elections. New Hampshire ranks third in the Democratic primary cycle for 2028.
Harris will campaign in Wisconsin with gubernatorial nominee David Crowley on October 26. To conclude her tour, she will spend three days in Georgia starting October 28, where she will join Sen. Jon Ossoff in various voter protection initiatives and culminate her visit by delivering a speech on October 30 at the Fulton County Democratic Party's annual gala in Atlanta.
During her time in Georgia, Harris will also host a virtual organizing event with Florida Senate nominee Angie Nixon, who is positioning herself to become the state's first Black U.S. senator. This event will place Harris alongside one of the Democratic Party's more progressive candidates, as Nixon, a state lawmaker, identifies as a democratic socialist and has garnered support from many left-leaning activists who previously criticized Harris for her moderate stance.
Harris's extensive itinerary is the result of earlier fundraising events and voter protection efforts she has spearheaded for the Democratic National Committee. Most recently, she campaigned in Michigan for Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed, noted as another significant progressive candidate, and participated in an NAACP event.
