Abandoned Building Fire Disrupts Toronto Highways

A significant fire broke out in an abandoned building located near the Don Valley Parkway and Dundas Street, prompting a swift and extensive response from Toronto Fire Services. The emergency services were alerted to the scene at Matilda and Munro streets shortly after 9:30 p.m. last night, leading to a three-alarm response due to the intensity of the blaze.

Visuals from the scene depict large flames erupting from both the top and windows of the structure, indicating the severity of the situation. Paramedics arrived at the location but, at present, no injuries have been reported and no patients are being assessed. This situation underscores the potential dangers associated with fires in abandoned buildings, which can quickly escalate and pose risks to first responders and nearby residents.

In the wake of the fire, several road closures have been implemented around the affected area to ensure public safety and facilitate firefighting efforts. As of midnight, the northbound lanes of the Don Valley Parkway were closed at Lakeshore Boulevard, while eastbound traffic on the Gardiner Expressway was shut down at Jarvis Street. Additional disruptions include the closure of the Bay Street on-ramp to the Gardiner Expressway.

Further roadblocks are affecting local traffic, with Dundas Street East being closed at Carroll Street. Additionally, both Munro Street and Davies Street are also facing closures. These restrictions are anticipated to remain in effect as firefighting operations continue and teams work to fully extinguish the flames.
