Stephen Gogolev delivered an outstanding performance for Canada during the men's short program of the team event at the 2026 Winter Olympics, held in Milan, Italy. His personal-best score of 92.99 points was pivotal in advancing Canada to the five-team final, showcasing his exceptional talent on a significant global stage.
Entering the final discipline of the opening round, Canada was positioned fifth. However, Gogolev's impressive performance propelled the team to fourth place overall, as he secured the third-best score among the participating men. This achievement marks a crucial moment in Gogolev's young career, as he made his Olympic debut after winning Canada’s only men's singles spot during the national championship just a month prior.
In the subsequent discipline, the ice dance free skate, Canadian duo Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha also shined by placing third with a score of 120.90. Their performance earned Canada an additional eight points, contributing to the overall team score as they vie for a strong standing in this prestigious event.
As the competition progresses, Canada currently occupies fourth place with a total of 35 points, trailing behind the United States, which leads with 44 points. Japan holds second with 39 points, and Italy closely follows with 37 points. Georgia rounds out the standings in fifth place with 32 points.
In addition to Gogolev and the ice dance team, other Canadian skaters participating in the opening round included Madeline Schizas in women's singles, and the pairs team of Lia Pereira and Trennt Michaud. Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier also represented Canada in ice dance, contributing to the team's overall point total as they prepare for the remaining phases of the Olympic competition.
