Tragedy struck near the Long Branch GO station when a boy, believed to be between the ages of 12 and 13, was fatally struck by a Lakeshore West GO Train. The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. on Alexandra Avenue and Fourth Street in Mississauga.

According to Peel police, preliminary investigations indicate that the boy, along with another young child, was riding a motorized bike in the vicinity when the tragic accident transpired. Constable Tyler Bell-Morena provided further details, stating that at the time of the incident, all traffic signals were functioning correctly. The barriers were down, the lights were flashing, and there was an audible warning signal in effect.

Const. Bell-Morena explained that the current understanding of the situation suggests that the child went around the barrier, leading to the unfortunate collision with the train.
