Blues Dominate Maple Leafs in 5-1 Victory

ST. LOUIS (AP) – In an impressive display, Dylan Holloway contributed a goal and an assist, leading the St. Louis Blues to a commanding 5-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. This win marks the Blues' fourth consecutive victory, further solidifying their strong presence in the league.

Goalkeeper Jordan Binnington made a notable return, registering 12 saves in his second home start since the Olympics. Binnington had not played on home ice since February 28 against the New Jersey Devils, with his previous four starts occurring on the road. In his most recent outing prior to this game, he made 14 saves to secure a win over the Vancouver Canucks last week.

For the Maple Leafs, Joseph Woll was busy in goal, producing 33 saves after setting a season-high with 40 saves in a 4-3 win over the New York Rangers just days prior. Despite his efforts, the team struggled against the well-coordinated Blues offense.

Alongside Holloway, players Jimmy Snuggerud, Justin Holl, Pius Sutter, and Philip Broberg also made significant contributions by scoring for St. Louis. This victory reflects the Blues' impressive form, with a record of 10-1-2 in March, during which they have outscored their opponents 37-20. Notably, St. Louis has allowed two or fewer goals in 12 of their last 15 games, showcasing a strong defensive performance.

The match began without any scoring in the first period, but the Blues quickly took control in the second period. Snuggerud opened the scoring with his 17th goal of the season, receiving a pass from Cam Fowler and finding the net at 5:21 into the second period. Shortly after, Holl, who played six seasons for the Maple Leafs, found his first goal with the Blues. He deflected a wrist shot by Jordan Kyrou into the net at 10:34, marking a significant moment for the veteran defenseman, who was acquired in a trade-deadline deal with the Detroit Red Wings. In exchange for Holl, the Blues sent Justin Faulk, along with Dmitri Buchelnikov, a 2026 first-round pick, and a 2026 third-round pick to Detroit.

Toronto finally responded in the third period when Jake McCabe scored on a wrist shot just 5:07 into the period, bringing the score to 2-1. However, the Blues immediately extended their lead again with two quick goals, maintaining momentum. Sutter scored a power-play goal at 6:46, followed by Holloway's snap shot at 9:10, pushing the score to 4-1 in favor of St. Louis.

The Blues capped off the game with one more power-play goal by Broberg at 18:24, bringing their power-play success rate to 4 for 29 since the Olympic break. This solidified their dominant performance against the Maple Leafs, who have not been able to hold their ground against the Blues lately, with St. Louis boasting a record of 3-0-1 in their last four encounters.

Upcoming Matches:

The Toronto Maple Leafs are scheduled to play against the Anaheim Ducks on Monday, as they look to rebound from this defeat.
