"Finch West LRT Faces Daylong Service Outage"

TTC officials reported a daylong outage affecting the Line 6 Finch West LRT, caused by an unspecified "communication issue." The interruption impacted service across the entire corridor, leading to significant disruptions for commuters.

Just after 8 a.m. on Tuesday, an alert from the TTC's social media account indicated that train service was not operational between Finch West and Humber College stations. Throughout the day, the TTC provided multiple updates, confirming that the situation persisted and that the private-sector maintainers of the line were actively working to resolve the problem.

In light of the situation, the TTC dispatched approximately 30 shuttle buses to provide end-to-end service for affected passengers. TTC spokespersons communicated with CityNews and noted that these shuttle services would remain in place throughout the day to accommodate commuters in lieu of the LRT.

In the evening, a further update from the TTC indicated that the shuttle buses would continue to operate for the remainder of the day. This decision was made to allow more time for Mosaic, the maintainer contracted by Metrolinx, to troubleshoot the ongoing communications issues on the line.

Metrolinx, which owns the line and its infrastructure, issued a concise statement affirming that crews were working diligently to repair the communication malfunction and restore service as promptly as possible. However, neither agency provided detailed insight into the nature of the communication issues affecting the LRT.

The Line 6 Finch West LRT was officially opened to the public at the end of 2025. Earlier this year, in May, the entire line faced a four-day shutdown to facilitate "essential upgrades and enhancements" by Mosaic Transit Group crews.
