A 22-year-old man from Kitchener, Ziyad Shiekhai, has been apprehended in connection with a significant drug trafficking investigation conducted by Windsor police. The arrest took place on Friday after authorities received reports of suspicious drug-related activity emanating from a restaurant's washroom located near the intersection of Goyeau Street and University Avenue.

Following the alerts from the public, law enforcement officials began an investigation that included speaking with witnesses and reviewing video surveillance footage from the restaurant. Detectives were able to gather a clear description of the suspect, which aided in the subsequent search for him.

Shortly after obtaining the description, officers located a man that matched it near the intersection of Park Street and Pelissier Street. Upon confronting him, Shiekhai reportedly attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by the officers. Their swift action led to his arrest without further incident.

In line with standard procedure following an arrest, police conducted a search of Shiekhai. This search yielded approximately 55 grams of suspected cocaine, alongside several other controlled substances that are currently set to undergo further analysis. The seizure of these drugs indicates a substantial operation that may have been in play.

In addition to the drugs, law enforcement also confiscated over $1,300 in cash, a pocketknife, a digital scale, and two cell phones from the suspect. These items may serve as crucial evidence in building a case against Shiekhai, highlighting his involvement in drug trafficking activities.

As a result of his actions, Ziyad Shiekhai has been charged with possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking, a serious offense that carries significant legal consequences. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities working to determine the full scope of the drug operation and identify any potential accomplices.
