Toronto police are currently investigating a suspected hate-motivated incident that involves threats made against multiple individuals. The incident, characterized by the use of anti-Black slurs, took place around 4 p.m. on Friday at a parking lot located near Brimley Road and Huntingwood Drive.

According to the police statement released on Monday evening, the suspect first drove past the victims before parking and exiting his vehicle. He then allegedly directed a series of anti-Black slurs and threats toward them. The situation escalated when he returned to his vehicle, retrieved a baseball bat from the trunk, and swung it at the victims, highlighting the unprovoked nature of the attack as the suspect and the victims were unknown to each other.

In efforts to locate the suspect, investigators released two photographs and provided a description of him. The suspect is described as a male approximately five-foot-ten and between 30 to 40 years old, possessing a medium build. On the day of the incident, he was last seen wearing a red Cincinnati Reds hat, a white t-shirt, light-blue jeans, white shoes, and a blue-and-white batting glove. Officials noted that he was driving an older model, four-door silver Honda Civic.

The police are treating this incident as a suspected hate-motivated offense, indicating that they may consult with the Crown attorney’s office for further action. Typically, if the suspect is charged and subsequently convicted, the nature of hate could be regarded as an aggravating factor during the sentencing process, potentially leading to more severe penalties.

As the investigation continues, Toronto police aim to gather further evidence and insights that could aid in identifying and apprehending the suspect involved in this alarming incident. The release of the images is part of their effort to engage the public's assistance in the matter.
