BTS Returns to Toronto After Decade Away

On Saturday, fans of the renowned Korean pop group BTS, known as the Army, started gathering at Rogers Stadium in Toronto as early as 3 p.m. for the first of their two shows scheduled for the weekend. The concert marked a significant return for the band, as it had been over a decade since they last performed in the city, with their previously planned 2020 show cancelled due to the pandemic.

Fans showed their enthusiasm by wearing a variety of merchandise from BTS's Arirang World Tour and jerseys featuring their favorite members' names. Among them, Claudia Zanteno and Mai Shimla stood out in sailor hats inspired by the band’s 2026 “Swim” video. Zanteno has been a dedicated fan since 2018, when she was just 12 years old, and expressed her desire to hear some of BTS’s older hits during the concert.

Shimla also shared her eagerness, mentioning she hoped to hear the track “FYA,” stating, “That’s my dance pop.” However, as excitement built, the sky darkened, and a thunderstorm approached the outdoor venue in Downsview. Rogers Stadium quickly announced that it was monitoring the weather conditions. At one point, they issued a weather delay, urging attendees to exit the grandstands and move to the fan plaza.

Just before 8 p.m., though, the venue provided a reassuring update, indicating that the show would proceed as planned and that fans could return to their seats. The band is currently touring in support of their latest album, with stops lined up across North America, Europe, and Latin America.

Naiess Karkan traveled from Niagara Falls to witness the concert, recalling how he became a fan after hearing one of BTS's songs for the first time. He noted that unity and diversity are central to what binds the BTS Army together, remarking, “Our main goal is to, like, love ourselves.” Another fan, Narrin Roya, shared her story of discovering BTS through the song “Boy In Love,” describing the band's music and visuals as an entirely new world that captivated her since that moment.

Roya expressed her admiration for the members, saying, “I like that all seven of them are just really good role models.” She emphasized the importance of having artists who promote positivity, love, and overall goodness, reflecting the sentiments of many in the audience.

This sold-out show not only marked BTS's return to Toronto but also represented a significant milestone in their ongoing journey, following a hiatus in 2022 that allowed the members to focus on various solo projects and fulfill their mandatory military service in South Korea.
