NEW YORK (AP) - Donald Trump’s childhood home has been sold for nearly $2 million, showcasing a dramatic transformation from a dilapidated state to a modern residence following extensive renovations. The Tudor-style house, located in the Jamaica Estates neighborhood of Queens, New York, was initially built in 1940 by Trump’s father, Fred Trump, and the former president lived there until the age of four.
The sale, finalized at $1.93 million, was publicly listed on real estate websites following a buyer’s contract entered into in July. The identity of the buyer has not been disclosed, but the seller, Tommy Lin, had originally acquired the five-bedroom, three-bathroom property for $835,000 just one year prior, after it had remained vacant and in disrepair for several years.
Lin, a developer, reportedly invested an additional $500,000 in an eight-month renovation project that modernized the home with features such as a chef's kitchen, herringbone wood flooring, and luxurious spa-like bathrooms. The renovation marked a significant step away from the home's prior condition, which included extensive mold issues and the presence of feral cats that had taken shelter in the neglected property.
Throughout recent years, the home has exchanged hands multiple times, reaching a peak sale price of $2.14 million shortly after Trump assumed the presidency in 2017. The most recent transaction shows a substantial increase in value and highlights the ongoing interest in properties associated with the Trump family. The buyer, a company named Trump Birth Home LLC, briefly listed the residence on Airbnb, offering a unique experience that included lifelike cardboard cutouts of Trump, copies of his bestselling book "The Art of the Deal," and featured framed magazine covers that highlighted his media presence.
The home previously attempted to sell in 2019, with an asking price of $2.9 million; however, it failed to sell until Lin purchased it. Originally, the property suffered from severe neglect, leading to considerable water damage from a burst pipe, as well as dangerous mold growth, a stark contrast to its present renovated state.
Donald Trump, now 80 years old, amassed his wealth through various ventures in the real estate sector, including the renowned Trump Tower in Manhattan, where he resided for many years. He translated his fame and fortune into a successful political career.
