To address this ongoing problem, the city obtained a temporary court injunction on August 13, which mandates the condominium corporations overseeing the plaza to implement measures aimed at curbing these nuisance activities.
According to the court order, the condominium corporations are now obligated to take various steps to prevent the assembly of large crowds that have recently led to fights, street racing, loud music, and illegal fireworks. These gatherings have attracted upwards of 3,000 attendees, creating significant public safety concerns. The injunction requires that parking gate arms or barriers be installed, and that adequate security personnel and paid duty officers be on site to manage both pedestrian and vehicular traffic effectively, ensuring that access to the plaza is controlled to mitigate the possibility of further disturbances.
To enhance enforcement of this injunction, Platinum Drive and Odyssey Drive will be blocked off at both ends, complemented by new signage informing visitors of the in-place regulations. This initiative comes in light of the fact that large gatherings and unsanctioned events have been a consistent issue over the previous two years, often leading to violations of existing bylaws. Such activities have hampered the city's ability to maintain safe roads, regulate traffic, and effectively respond to emergencies in the vicinity of Ridgeway Plaza.
The temporary injunction is set to remain effective from noon on August 13, 2025, until 2 a.m. on August 15, 2025, and again from noon on August 19, 2025, until 2 a.m. on August 20, 2025. This timeframe directly coincides with anticipated events, such as celebrations for Pakistan Independence Day on August 13 and 14, and Afghanistan Independence Day on August 19. The City has expressed particular concern over potential unsanctioned activities surrounding these dates that could threaten public order and safety.
City officials have clarified that this course of action is not aimed at targeting specific groups or individuals. Instead, it reflects a community-centered approach to ensuring public safety and reducing disturbances in the area.
