A tragic shooting occurred at the Taste of the City Lounge in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, early Sunday morning, resulting in three fatalities and nine injuries. The incident, which took place around 3:30 a.m., is believed to involve up to four shooters and appears to have been gang-related, according to Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch.

This violent episode marks the second mass shooting in New York City within weeks, occurring in a year that had otherwise seen a significant decline in gun violence. On July 29, a separate incident involved a man armed with a rifle in a Manhattan office tower, which left one person injured and claimed the lives of four others, one of whom was a New York City police officer.

At a news briefing following the Crown Heights shooting, Commissioner Tisch labeled the event as "a tragic, senseless act of violence" and confirmed that there were no immediate arrests. The ages of the victims of the recent shooting range from 19 to 61, with a 19-year-old man dying at the scene. Two other victims, aged 35 and 27, succumbed to their injuries after being transported to a hospital.

Investigators uncovered at least 42 shell casings from 9 mm and .45-caliber firearms near the scene, along with a firearm found on a nearby street. Mayor Eric Adams emphasized the importance of ongoing efforts to remove guns from the streets in light of this incident, stating, "we don’t want this to turn into a normal course of doing business of violence in our city."

In response to the shooting, crisis management teams have been activated to provide trauma services and to mediate with the victims' families and friends to prevent retaliation. The Mayor urged the public to contribute any information they might have about the shooting, encouraging individuals who were inside the club or witnessed events related to the shooting to contact the NYPD's crime stoppers line at 800-577-TIPS.

Commissioner Tisch noted that despite the severity of this incident, the city reported the lowest number of shootings and shooting victims on record during the first seven months of 2025. "Something like this is, of course, thank God, an anomaly and it’s a terrible thing that happened this morning," she remarked, reaffirming the commitment to investigate and uncover the details of this shocking occurrence.

The ongoing investigation seeks to resolve this violent event and restore a sense of safety in the community, as city officials work diligently to address the issue of gun violence in New York City.
