One suspect has been apprehended while two additional individuals remain at large in connection to an attempted kidnapping incident that took place in Mississauga on June 24. Peel police reported that the incident occurred around 10:20 p.m. when two young women were walking near the intersection of Britannia Road West and Queen Street South.

According to the police, the victims encountered three masked men who allegedly tried to lure them to a light-coloured Audi SUV. Reports indicate that the suspects pursued the women and attempted to abduct them, with one suspect possibly brandishing a firearm while another was armed with a knife. Fortunately, a passerby intervened during the alarming encounter, prompting the suspects to flee the scene in the Audi. Thankfully, the victims sustained no physical injuries.

On August 18, Waleed Khan, a 26-year-old resident of Etobicoke, was arrested and subsequently charged with 33 offences, which include kidnapping, firearms-related charges, auto theft, and several others. His apprehension followed a comprehensive investigation by law enforcement, which led to a search of his residence.

During this search, authorities allegedly seized two prohibited firearms, including an AR-style rifle capable of automatic fire and a pistol, both of which were fitted with high-capacity magazines. In total, over 110 rounds of ammunition were also reportedly recovered from Khan's residence. At the time of his arrest, he was on probation for previous violent offences and was prohibited from possessing any firearms.

Despite the serious nature of the charges, Khan has since been released on bail, albeit with the condition of wearing an ankle monitor to track his movements. This leniency has raised questions given the gravity of his alleged actions and the potential risks posed to the community.

Authorities continue to seek the two remaining suspects, who are described as males in their late teens to mid-twenties with medium builds. The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement is urging anyone with information regarding the suspects or the outstanding vehicle, a light-coloured Audi SUV, to come forward to assist in the case.

As the investigation unfolds, the community remains on high alert in light of these events, underscoring the need for continued vigilance regarding public safety concerns. The swift action taken by the passerby during the attempted kidnapping incident exemplifies the role that bystanders can play in potentially life-saving situations.
