Canadian journalist Beverly Thomson has passed away at the age of 61 after a prolonged battle with cancer that lasted 23 years. She died on Sunday morning, according to CTV News, where she had a significant role in broadcasting.
Beverly Thomson was born and raised in the Toronto area. She began her career in journalism at a small radio station in Newmarket and subsequently worked for what is now known as CityNews 680. Her journey in the media industry continued as she became an on-air reporter for CTV, later moving on to Global News before returning to CTV to co-host the popular morning show, Canada AM. She continued her impactful work on CTV News Channel thereafter.
Thomson was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002, which led her to become an active advocate for breast cancer awareness. Her fight against the disease inspired many, and her contributions to journalism were recognized when she received a lifetime achievement award from the Radio Television Digital News Association of Canada (RTDNA Canada) in October 2024.
Throughout her career, Thomson was renowned for her high-profile interviews with various politicians and celebrities. Notable moments included her coverage of the 2016 U.S. presidential election and her one-on-one interviews with high-stakes figures like Donald Trump, Shania Twain, and Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield while he was aboard the International Space Station.
