Police and fire officials are set to provide an update on Monday regarding a tragic fire that occurred in Brampton, Ontario, which has already resulted in the deaths of three individuals. This devastating incident took place in a residential area on Banas Way, near the intersection of McLaughlin Road and Remembrance Road, just before 3 a.m. on Thursday.
The search for two additional individuals, believed to be a toddler and an adult, resumed on Sunday, as they remain unaccounted for following the fire. Recovery teams found the remains of one adult in the wreckage of the home on Friday, intensifying the sorrow surrounding this incident.
Peel Regional Police have informed that no further updates regarding the missing persons will be released until the ongoing search operations conducted by emergency officials are complete. The tragedy struck when two adults were pronounced dead at the scene of the fire, while four others, including a five-year-old child, were transported to the hospital for treatment. Of these four, one adult male’s condition has significantly deteriorated; he is currently in critical condition, while the other three victims remain stable.
At the time of the blaze, the residence was reportedly home to eleven individuals, consisting of nine family members and two tenants residing in a secondary basement unit. Authorities indicate that all the residents are related in some capacity, although specific details have not been disclosed.
Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown addressed the situation, mentioning that the home was not licensed to accommodate such a large number of residents. He further described the property owner as an “absentee landlord,” implying a lack of oversight concerning compliance with city-mandated inspections.
