Toronto Man Arrested for TTC Bus Sexual Assaults

Toronto police have apprehended a man in relation to two separate sexual assaults that occurred on Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) buses. The individual has been identified as 26-year-old Ankit Mukherjee, a resident of Toronto, and he faces two counts of sexual assault.

According to police reports, the first incident took place on May 1, 2025, at approximately 5:00 p.m. The location was a bus operating in the vicinity of Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue East. Investigators revealed that the victim was aboard the bus when Mukherjee allegedly approached her and proceeded to commit sexual assault while standing beside her.

Authorities have linked Mukherjee to a second reported sexual assault that occurred two weeks later, on May 15, around 8:00 a.m. This incident also transpired on a bus in the same geographical area. In this case, a woman was on the bus when Mukherjee moved to exit. As he was leaving, he is accused of sexually assaulting her before disembarking.

The occurrence of these incidents has raised significant concerns in the community regarding safety on public transportation. Following the accusations, Mukherjee was scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on the following Friday, where legal proceedings will commence against him. This case highlights the ongoing issues of sexual assault in public spaces and the necessity for increased vigilant measures by authorities to ensure the safety of commuters.

As investigations continue, police are urging any additional victims or witnesses to come forward to assist in providing further context to these troubling events. The TTC, which is a major public transit system serving Toronto and the surrounding areas, has been under scrutiny for its safety protocols as incidents like these affect public confidence in using the transit system.

The arrests and charges against Mukherjee serve as a reminder of the critical need for awareness and swift action against acts of sexual violence. It underscores the importance of maintaining safe environments for all individuals, especially in busy and public settings such as transit systems.
