A shooting incident occurred in East York on Tuesday afternoon, leading to the arrest of a 22-year-old man. The Toronto police responded to reports of the shooting near Greenwood and Cosburn avenues just before 2:30 p.m. The altercation between the suspect and the victim escalated to a point where the suspect discharged a firearm, resulting in the victim sustaining a gunshot wound to the hand.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim with the injury and immediately began their investigation. The assailant, later identified as Owen Bayi Makouangou from Oshawa, was located by police later in the day at the intersection of Thickson and Taunton roads in Whitby. He was taken into custody and is currently facing multiple charges. These include discharging a firearm with intent, as well as various other firearm-related offenses.
During the apprehension of Makouangou, police reportedly seized a semi-automatic handgun and a quantity of cocaine. Furthermore, a second man, Guy-Christophe Bangoura, aged 26 and from Toronto, has also been implicated and charged with multiple firearm offenses. Both individuals are expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
