A tragic multi-vehicle crash occurred in Mississauga on Thursday, resulting in critical injuries to a woman and a child. The collision involved a black Range Rover and a red Honda Civic, and it took place shortly after 4 p.m. at the intersection of Ninth Line and Erin Centre Boulevard.
According to Peel Regional Police, this incident began as a reported carjacking approximately four kilometers away from the crash site. The carjacking was said to have originated at Life Time Fitness, located near Highway 403 and Winston Churchill Boulevard, just before 4 p.m. Reports indicate that there was an interaction involving the occupants of the black Range Rover and one or more vehicles at the gym location.
Constable Tyler Bell provided updates, clarifying that investigators have ruled out the possibility of a carjacking having taken place. He noted, “What we believe to have taken place so far is that some sort of interaction happened with the occupants of the black Range Rover and one, or possibly more, vehicles at that gym location.” There are unconfirmed reports suggesting that a firearm may have been involved during the incident at the gym.
After the reported interaction at the gym, the Range Rover fled the scene, and a high-speed pursuit likely ensued with one or more vehicles. This chase culminated in the crash on Ninth Line, resulting in serious injuries. Paramedics reported that an adult woman and three children, ages 9 to 11, were transported to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries, while a fourth child was reported to be in serious condition.
As of the latest update, three children are now in stable condition, yet the woman and one child continue to fight for their lives in critical condition. Cst. Bell confirmed that two of the injured children are related to the woman, while the other two are friends of the family.
Following the crash, it was reported that two young individuals fled the scene on foot. However, no detailed descriptions were available at that time, aside from one suspect wearing all black clothing and the other last seen dressed in a white shirt and black pants. Authorities continue to investigate the matter.
Constable Bell further stated that the black Range Rover involved in the incident is not currently listed as stolen. However, he emphasized, “That doesn’t mean it wasn’t stolen; it is certainly possible that this vehicle has been stolen and not yet reported. That is something we’re looking into.” The investigation remains ongoing as police seek further information regarding the events leading up to the crash and the individuals who fled the scene.
