The national police force, An Garda Síochána, released a statement indicating that they do not have sufficient information to validate the robbery claims involving Thompson, who serves as a reserve quarterback for the Steelers.
According to the Irish Independent, multiple males were allegedly involved in an assault on Thompson close to the Temple Bar area, resulting in the theft of his mobile phone. Police reports indicate that officers patrolling Dame Street responded early Saturday to assist a man who appeared to need medical attention.
Authorities reported that a male in his 20s was treated and evaluated at the scene by emergency personnel, although no further details about the alleged assault were provided.
Steelers spokesman Burt Lauten acknowledged that the team was aware of an incident involving Thompson on Friday night. He stated that the team would refrain from further comments until they and the NFL have gathered additional information regarding the situation.
