Peel Regional Police have reported that the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident in Mississauga removed his rear license plate shortly after the collision, which resulted in the death of a 56-year-old man. The tragic incident occurred on November 14, 2023, at approximately 9 p.m. in the East Credit area of Mississauga, specifically near Eglinton Avenue West and Fallingbrook Drive.
Emergency responders found the victim with severe injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspected driver was behind the wheel of a 2014 to 2018 model silver or grey Mini Cooper. After the crash, the driver fled the scene and was last observed traveling westbound on Eglinton Avenue.
Police investigations have revealed that CCTV footage captured shortly after the accident shows the male suspect taking immediate action to evade law enforcement. The footage depicts him removing the rear license plate from the vehicle and placing it in the trunk before fleeing the scene once more.
The vehicle is described as having a black roof and distinctive rims, and it is believed to have noticeable damage on the front passenger side, hood, and windshield. Law enforcement continues to analyze additional surveillance footage from cameras along the route the driver took following the incident.
Peel Regional Police have issued a call for assistance from the public and local auto repair shops. They are asking any businesses that may have serviced vehicles matching the aforementioned description to reach out to them.
