The Toronto police announced that a man who was on the run in connection with the murder of 15-year-old Jahkai Jack has been apprehended in Calgary. The arrest of 20-year-old Abdul Yeberebaba took place on February 27, 2026, following cooperation with local law enforcement.
Yeberebaba has been extradited to Toronto to face charges of second-degree murder in the June 2025 shooting death of Jack. He becomes the third suspect identified in this ongoing homicide investigation. The incident that led to Jack's tragic death occurred in the Emmett Avenue and Jane Street area, which is near Weston Road. Reports of gunfire prompted police response, leading officers to discover Jack suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite immediate medical attention, Jack was rushed to a trauma center, where he succumbed to his injuries. The shooting took place on the night of June 7, 2025, and deeply impacted the community, prompting widespread calls for justice. Investigators have been diligently working to gather evidence and identify all individuals involved in the crime.
Just last week, police provided updates on the investigation, revealing that two additional suspects, Rajveer Gill, 21, and Jayden Samuel-James, 19, both residents of Toronto, have been arrested. They face charges of being an accessory after the fact to murder. Notably, Samuel-James was detained in British Columbia, highlighting the lengths to which law enforcement has gone to ensure that all parties connected to this heinous act are brought to justice.
The tragic loss of Jahkai Jack has resonated deeply within the community, raising awareness around issues of youth violence and gun control. Investigators continue to urge anyone with information related to the homicide to come forward, emphasizing the need for collective community efforts to combat such violence.

The investigation remains a priority for the Toronto police, who continue to work collaboratively with other law enforcement agencies across Canada to ensure the safety of the community and accountability for those involved in violent crimes. The tragic circumstances surrounding Jahkai Jack’s death underscore significant public safety concerns and the urgent necessity for law enforcement to address the root causes of gang violence and gun-related incidents.
