Toronto police have made significant progress in a human trafficking investigation that commenced in March, involving a 27-year-old victim from both Toronto and Ajax. The investigation led to two arrests, highlighting the serious nature of human trafficking in the region.
According to allegations, the accused, identified as Nygel Wright, 30, of Toronto, and Kristin Hendren, 34, from Ajax, engaged in a range of manipulative tactics including deception, coercion, and control to traffic the victim. The victim was reportedly transported to various locations to meet clients and provide sexual services. It is claimed that all earnings generated by the victim were seized and retained by the accused individuals.
On July 16, police executed a search warrant in the City of Toronto as part of the investigation. This led to the arrest of Nygel Wright, who now faces a total of 12 charges. These charges include severe offenses such as assault, forcible confinement, and trafficking in persons. Other charges against him involve advertising another person’s sexual services and benefiting materially from those services.
On the same day of Wright's arrest, a separate search warrant was executed in the City of Ajax, resulting in the arrest of Kristin Hendren. She faces five charges, including trafficking in persons by recruiting and materially benefiting from sexual services. These arrests reflect the officers' commitment to addressing and combating human trafficking in the region.
Both individuals were set to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on the day they were apprehended, as the legal process moves forward in response to the serious allegations. Authorities express concern that there may be additional victims connected to this case and are actively encouraging anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist law enforcement in their investigation.
