Residents have expressed their frustration by vandalizing his property with eggs, dog feces, and even making incendiary threats online.
The homeowner, who prefers to remain anonymous, has stated that despite living in Canada for over a decade, he is a proud American and staunch Trump supporter. He views the aggressive reactions from some neighbors as fundamentally misguided and detrimental to democratic principles. “The position of some would be to say, ‘Hey, this guy, he doesn’t agree with what we agree in, politically... so let’s run them out of town,’” he explained. “That’s not a good look in my opinion, in any democratic society.”
Calgary police have confirmed they received a report of vandalism on August 23. According to the homeowner, while many individuals have approached him positively, others have resorted to destructive acts against his property. He mentioned that some individuals have suggested online that they should set his house on fire. His concerns about safety have been heightened, prompting him and his wife to involve the police.
The couple's home, located near downtown Calgary, features two prominent pro-Trump flags and frequently displays a large American flag from their balcony. The homeowner elaborated that the intention behind displaying the flags was to showcase their American patriotism. However, over time, it has morphed into a symbol of acceptance for conservative views, which, he believes, have been marginalized in society. One of the flags reads, “Trump: Make America Great Again,” while the other humorously states, “Trump 2028: Third Term and Beyond,” reflecting his specific support for certain policies rather than a literal expectation of Trump serving more than two terms, which is constitutionally prohibited.
This incident is not isolated; the homeowner noted that similar hostility has occurred in the past. During the 2024 U.S. presidential election, graffiti was spray-painted on a retaining wall of their property following Trump's victory over Democrat challenger Kamala Harris. The animosity coincides with the recent U.S. tariffs on approximately $28 billion worth of Canadian exports, which are expected to escalate further as Canada responds with its own tariffs effective September 8.
The homeowner explained their decision to remain in Canada, stating they have established a life here, despite their support for the Trump administration. He remains optimistic that the current trade conflict, like previous ones, will eventually be resolved, believing that “Canada and the U.S. will kiss and make up.” He perceives the trade disputes as transient, asserting that the relationship between the two nations will normalize over time.
The surrounding environment has also experienced collateral effects from the feud, including a recent order from Trump to rename Lake Ontario to Lake America in response to criticism from Ontario Premier Doug Ford.
